LaShawn B. Thorpe is currently the managing owner of The Key P.A., Inc., a business and personal assistant firm that supports full-time employees with their entrepreneurial goals and career endeavors. With over 15 years of Human Resources experience, LaShawn understands people, conducts training and is adept at dealing with employee relations. She is eager to serve on the board of MenTouring Our Brothers, as she has missed the direct connection she had in impacting the lives of others since resigning from the Board of Directors for the Thomas Davis Defending Dreams Foundation. She was instrumental in laying the groundwork of the organization. She developed many policies, procedures and created and implemented the organization’s signature program; the Youth Leadership Academy. LaShawn has a passion for helping others and works with several community organizations to assist people in increasing their knowledge, skills and abilities in order to become more productive citizens and role models for their families. LaShawn holds a Master’s of Public Administration from Keller Graduate School of Management and a Bachelors of Political Science from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
George Metz is a native of Charlotte, NC. Metz served as co-founder and Director of Programs & Public Affairs before transitioning to the Board of Directors at MenTouring Our Brothers. He graduated from David W. Butler High School and attained a B.A. in Psychology from North Carolina Central University. George has worked in the Human Services field for more than 10 years, helping individuals and families manage developmental and mental health disabilities and socioeconomic disadvantages. He served as both Social Capital Coordinator and Site Coordinator for the Adjudicated Youthful Offender Program at West Charlotte High School and has a passion for supporting the development of young people to their full potential. George is married to Maya Metz and they have two daughters, Nazaria and Charis.
Joseph Johnson is working for Charlotte Mecklenburg School Child Nutrition Services where he is feeding close to a thousand students daily. While on the road to obtaining his Certified Dietary Management Certification, he is working part time at a senior living community in the South Park area in Charlotte, NC. Working at CMS, Joseph and his team ensure that strict rules of food handling guidelines from the Food and Drug Administration and the United States Department of Agriculture are carefully followed. Joseph joined CMS 5 years ago as a Senior Cafeteria Manager. Mr. Johnson is also a varsity soccer coach and assistant coach on the West Charlotte High School men’s basketball staff. As an Orangeburg, South Carolina native, he assists in scouting, practice, strengthening and conditioning, and preparation with nutrition. Mr. Johnson will bring a wealth of knowledge as a member of the Board of Directors at MenTouring Our Brothers.
